Archetypes: Marc, Rhys, Cristian, Lena, Isaac
I will try to make a post of the archetypes tonight so that you are not left completely in the dark. For the moment you will have to bear with me.
The movie is a rare hero movie between Rhys and Marc in the Wild West. Marc coveting his brother’s girl, which, as you will learn, is not a surprise. The Lone Ranger exhibits a surprising amount of plot armour, although still not at peak Twister levels.
Depp is actually a really good Tonto, a really Depp Tonto and therefore something of a Rhys character. Amusing, supernatural, however lacking the full on Rhys vulgarity.
We have a Cristian bad guy, who is a bit of an off the charts cannibal, a subplot that was pretty useless to the story. I think as this was a Disney film and somewhat family-friendly, cannibal > rapist. I think the latter would have made more sense.
There is very little use of Helena Bonham Carter (Lena) and her house of sin. Again, falling into that whole Disney thing. We also did not get a good view of the chemistry she often has with Depp.
We have the business bad guy too, a light Isaac.
This was just a fun movie that does not require too much brain to enjoy. Some wonderful over the top action and a great bit of Sunday viewing!
