Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 2008

1214th movie, 262nd from the 2000s, 350th on Disney+ (also on Netflix & iTunes)

Comfort Movie, 6th viewing

Rating: 7/10

Distraction Rating: 5/10

Plot armour rating: 9/10

Archetypes: Marc

This movie sits on the edge of our comfort movies. It got the bump in due to our love with Indy. That said, six viewings in two years for a somewhat sub-par movie is pushing it.

Any other franchise, the movie would receive a lower score, but between Indy and Harrison Ford, it gets a little bump.

The plot armour is heavy in this movie, and the archetypes are rather light. Even Indiana Marc is just edging his former Marcness.

The plot is not that bad, and I actually enjoy the crystal skulls, but how the movie carried the weight of the character with all the elements did fall flat on itself.

We could have done without his son, as it was not really useful to the character. It probably had something to do with how much action the older character could get up to versus the younger one.

I figure they were looking to see similar chemistry as the previous movie, but Shia is no Sean, and neither is Harrison.

The adventure here was not really set up as a father son dynamic.

I do not believe any other actor would have been successful in the role of Indy’s son in this movie, but several still would have been better picks. Shia would definitely not have been my first pick. Actually, for actors at the time, I could have seen Keira Knightley as a much more convincing daughter.

We will still watch this movie again and reevaluate how we feel about it.
