The perfect start for our Halloween 2023 collection with child murder! Well alleged child murder. At the very least, these bastard children are going to walk away with some PTSD.

I am a big fan of this Marc’ish Willy Wonka, but I also do really like the Rhys’ier version with Gene Wilder (which I hope is streaming this year somewhere we can reach).

This is also our 2nd Depp movie of the day, who we will definitely see more as we go through Halloween films, his characters do lend themselves very well to Halloween.

Young Marc turns into adult Rhys while still retaining his young Marc daddy issues with Dryn… but I mean, if your dad is an evil white wizard during his free time, you would have daddy issues, too.

The only child without real trauma is Charlie, and although he grew up extremely poor and destitute, he is nowhere near as broken as any other children in this story.

I do question how successful he will be at running the chocolate factory, as Willy, who is thoroughly screwed the wrong way too tight, was tightly bolted in just the right way to be great at his job.

Thinking about it, though, Charlie might be psychotic enough for the job. He was rather unphased by what happened to the other children. Just the right level of insanity to fit into Willy’s dream.
