This film is a guilty pleasure, my fave M. Night Shyamalan movies.
There are debates as to why aliens who have such intense technology would come to Earth, not knowing they are allergic to water.
My theories are either they did not realise they were, as I was the first time I had fish sticks and wanted to die. Or, they were not aware they were allergic to Earth water.
It could be as easy as the combination of our water with the microplastics in it that could be a fatal combination to them.
Wee Dantette (the kinder girl) was constantly warning everyone that the water was bad.
This movie is one giant Checkov’s Gun, which is only comparable to the Sword of Sargeras sticking “discreetly” out of Azeroth.
Papachard is dealing with the loss of his wife and his faith, living with his brother Dave, who has anger management issues and likes to swing at things. Papachard’s son is a bit of a snarky ass child who suffers from plot asthma and who is a little bit psychic and prone to conspiracy theories. His daughter who does not like amoeba water.
I am a fan of the scene where the alien is hunting after the birthday cake, proving aliens have good taste and like scaring children too.
This movie has a lot in common with those old 80s TV alien movies. The foreboding nature is the best part. Think Threads (1984) or Without Warning (1994) both movies who captured that vibe.
I’m happy that the RNG likes bringing it up quickly every time it comes back. It’s good for its annual viewing, and I will wait with anticipation for next year… unless it pops up randomly…
