A Bug’s Life 1998

1227th movie, 195th from the 1990s, 353rd on Disney+

Rating: 6/10

Distraction Rating: 3/10

Plot armour rating: n/a, animated

I have memories of this movie being better than my experience watching it this time. The years have not been kind to this movie.

It is not so much that the movie is boring, it has to do with better movies following the same plot ideas that have come out since, and before.

The Lego Movie comes instantly to mind.

The story of an individual breaking free from the group to try something original and being stamped by the collective for being unique. Finding others who also value a unique flavour and getting together to do the thing to make the collective appreciate them for their uniqueness.

It has been done better, and this movie is easily 45 minutes too long.

The bird is the best thing about this movie. Actually, a whole movie about the bird would be great. It does not have to say anything. Just eat the individuals!

33rd EWOKed movie, 9th from the 90s and 14th disney.

This gives me the opportunity to explain an EWOKed movie. A type of movie that got its name from the Star Wars Ewok films. Not that they were atrocious, but they were definitely a once in a decade viewing. There are some EWOKed movies that are a once every quarter of a century: The 13th Warrior.

EWOKed movies are red-listed movies that we will definitely not watch again. Eventually, I will share a list of the other 32 for reference.
