Back to the Future Part II 1989

1232nd movie, 126th from the 1980s, 333rd on Prime

Comfort movie, 6th viewing

Rating: 9/10

Distraction rating: 6/10

Plot armour rating: 10/10, and Marty has some Star Wars level balance

This is the weakest of the BttF movies. It does not feel as fleshed out as the 1st and 3rd were, and there were definitely some opportunities missed to make it a better story. The plot had a lot of half-arsed elements, but nothing really fully explored.

This is why, although I love the movie, it has very little ability to keep my attention.

People in this universe have zero peripheral vision or hearing.

This series aged poorly, on a social level, although I find the “future” is where the all white, all straight world seemed to hit the hardest. Even if we go with the idea that this was a small, nowhere town America, having the Token black person just did not seem right.

We will give it the small town America benefit of the doubt. I figure if I can believe in time travel, we can believe the only black people in the movie would be living in the ghetto.

Back to the zero peripheral vision, which really is the part that gets to me a lot. If there was somebody talking on a walkie-talkie and popping their head up a bunch in the backseat of my car, I am going to notice that shit. Call me special, I guess.

I think if the movie had been better, like 1 and 3, these would not stand out as much.

Bonus points for seeing a wee Frodo in the future.

This is still a comfort movie and a fun movie to disassemble with friends.
