I am not one for horror movies, and I have limits on certain types of horror movie gore. These limits are chaotic as I have seen worse in other types of movies and have no problem. It always depends on the context. I also heavily dislike jump scares in most situations.
This movie is just barely a horror movie, and so it is acceptable in the genre, and there are just barely any jump scares.
This all makes it an excellent horror movie for our Halloween collection, hitting all those check marks that most people love in the horror genre.
The movie also on the plus side has two celeb crushes from my late teens and 20s: Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard.
This movie was clearly inspired by the movies before it, as are most movies, but this one has the joy of inspiring so many after it.
As usual, this movie is littered with red flag toxic men, and even the strong female leads suffer from being the victims to the dolts around them.
Horror movie trope?
But is that not the point of this movie?
A solid trope and an enjoyable one.
I figure that if you are reading me, this is a movie you have likely seen, so this is the only spoiler warning I am going to give from this point on.
The toxic, red flag men are the killers!
Not much of a twist.
The rapey boyfriend and his virgin best friend are behind everything. The rapey boyfriend who can not even manage to stay out of jail in the first act was the brains behind it all.
Brother is definitely not Michael Myers.
Still, barring the implosibility of them destroying all the years of planning in one swift weekend, this movie is still a fun ride.
This movie does try to be both cunning serial killer and crazy psychotic killer, which are not really compatible. But they are fun.
